Cleaning and Disinfecting Procedures for Topcon Devices

Topcon device user manuals include cleaning and disinfecting procedures to minimize the spread of infectious diseases. These recommendations conform to guidelines from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Topcon recommends following the instructions outlined in the user manual for each instrument.

Cleaning frequency

Any part of the instrument that comes in contact with the patient should be disinfected between each patient use. These may include:

  • Forehead rest
  • Chin rest
  • Chin rest bars/pins
  • Device body cover
  • Touch panel

For daily cleaning, a dry cloth can be used to wipe off stains. Alternatively, a wet cloth soaked in warm water, mixed with neutral detergent, can be used when there is visible staining.

Cleaning supplies

Disinfectants such as 70% isopropyl or ethyl alcohol should be used to clean device surfaces and allowed to air dry, as recommended by the WHO and CDC.

Please refer to the device user manual for a complete list of recommended cleaning and disinfecting agents and procedures.

If there are smudges or fingerprints on the lens, please refer to Service News No. 19-M-029 (Maintenance cleaning manual for objective lens cleaning) for cleaning procedures and contact your local Topcon representative for cleaning kits.
